fashion help please!

What do I wear for: day while touring with important officials, coctail receptions and dinners with very important officials. I would like to look stylish, but respectful. Is the style of clothing pretty much the same as in New York? Thank you.

Black

Black with black, black with dark grey.

Dark black, black with black pinstripes.

That will get you by - its the tailoring that is different to what you will see in NY, and unless you buy French in NY you cant replicate it.

If in doubt, wear black and accessorize (with taste, natch).

Oh - and just to be safe make sure you wear black............... :)

I%26#39;m going to make a leap here and suggest that if you%26#39;re touring with %26quot;important officials%26quot; you probably have the means to drop by Dior in NYC and seek their advice for a daytime and evening ensemble that can work for your visit. Use scarves and other subtly colorful accents to change the look. Simple gold or platinum jewelry for daytime, diamonds only after dark!

Ok, my deux centimes. You don%26#39;t have to do black, you can do dark grey, but forget navy.

Think simple cut, a tailleur for the day you could remove the jacket and put a more fancy blouse for diner.

Almost no make-up, very plain hairdo, very plain nail polish if any.

The most important that you will be judge on are shoes and bags. It ok to wear the same ensemble three days in a row if it is of good cut and quality.

And of course un bon parfum because:

%26quot;Une femme sans parfum est une femme sans avenir%26quot; Coco Chanel

%26quot;No diamonds until dark%26quot;? I am a tourist who will not be visiting (at least intentionally) with any important officials. But I always wear diamond studs in the daytime. Is that not proper?

(Sorry to borrow the post for an OT topic.)

(aside to smyrashiro: Etiquette says diamonds only after dark, but that%26#39;s in the US, too. So...if you%26#39;re comfortable wearing them there during the day, go ahead and wear them here, too, since the same number of people who have commented on them there (probably 0) are likely to comment on them here.)

I only ever wear rubies until after dark. After dark I wear rubies.

And black

Technically it is only appropriate to wear diamonds after evening (with the exception of a engagement/wedding ring). That fashion rule is, of course, largely ignored. The point of the posting, however, is that French women tend to wear more sophisticated, but less flashy daytime jewelry than many American women (and men).

Well said Truffant, I%26#39;m on my way to the airport in about an hour, funny, I have on black trousers, black sweater and plain gold hoop earrings (do have diamonds on the L ring finger) . I guess I%26#39;ll be ok arriving tomorrow morning.

Of course, since I%26#39;m a dealer in antique and estate jewelry, I%26#39;d really prefer that the whole world adopt the American standard and weigh down every conceivable body part with acres of diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and pearls!!!

Truffaut - Is the Dalmatian in your picture wearing a diamond studded collar?
