To find out the best routes on Metro, RER, or bus go to:

The site is easy to use.

Or, you can ask your hotel staff.

The cheapest and most direct route will be to simply walk down the street to the intercection of to the BARBES-ROCHECHOURT Metro station and take the #2 Metro ligne (heading in the direction of Porte Dauphine) to CHARLES deGAULLE-ÉTOILE and then switch to the #6 Metro ligne (heading in the direction of Nation) to the BIR HAKEIM station. There are free transfer between Metro lignes within the SAME station. There are no free transfer between Metro lignes and public buses or between public buses.

But most direct may mot always be the best way to go. In this instance, that may be to take the #2 Metro from Barbes-Rochechouart to CHARLES deGAULLE-ÉTOILE and then come up to the street level at Arc de Triompphe and walk from here, down Ave. Kleber from Arc de Triomphe/Étiole to Place de Trocadero and the PALAIS de CHAILLOT (5-10 minute stroll); then up the wide steps onto the terrace between the two %26#39;wings%26#39; of the Palais. Trust me on this....the short walk will be worth it.

But what you really need to do is get yourself a good streetmap of Paris. For general planning and touring purposes, it%26#39;s difficult to beat the STREETWISE PARIS compact folding map--http://www.streetwisemaps.com/index.html

Then use this to orient yourself to the city and its layout, the locations of the sights and attractions which interest you and their relative locations.
