Chateau Vincennes and Pharmacies

Have been reading a little about this chateau and Bois in the Eastern part of Paris. It looks very interesting. Have any of you been there? Is it worth going out of your way to see? And if so , which Metro line would you take? Also a question about Parisian pharmacies-- do they dispense medications like antibiotics or do you have to have a doctor%26#39;s visit first, as in the U.S.? Thanks so much!

I can answer the part on the château de Vincennes. for people interested in medieval military architecture,it can be a worthwile trip, as the château is very acessible from Paris (last stop on the no 1 line). However, the best part, the dungeon, has undergone a major restoration scheme over the last decade, and should not open before 2007 according to what I read (to be confirmed)

I can answer the part on pharmacies ! You need a prescription to get antibiotics in French pharmacies.

Yep you need a doctor%26#39;s visit first .You will quicker get a homepathic medicament than antibotics in France. Most medcines are trying to cut off on patients use of antibotics. If you need to see a doctor check this site for list of English speaking doctors in France region Parisien.

or visit the American Hospital in Neuilly sur Seine.Just jump in any taxi and they will know where it is.

If visiting the Bois de Vincennes just be vigilant.

And the Chateau is wonderfull.A real taste of French charm.

The Bois de Vincennes is very safe during the day and full of joggers and bikers. You can rent bikes in front of the chateau in the summer and on the first Sunday of every month there is an antique car club displaying many interesting cars.

I know some Americans who needed various medications in Paris and were able to get them without a prescription. I did it once. I%26#39;m not sure every pharmacist would do this, but many do. If you think you might need something, be sure and bring it with you from the States.

My visit to Vincennes this past September was the highlight of my trip. The Chateau grounds are just a short walk from the Metro entrance. As it turned out, I was the only person on the guided tour, so I got to spend a great deal of time with the guide in the chapel. I can%26#39;t wait for the dungeon to re-open. There is a great deal of history about the place, and I think it%26#39;s definitely worth a morning or afternoon, especially if this isn%26#39;t your first trip to Paris and you%26#39;re looking for something to do that%26#39;s a little different.
