Day Trips near Lourdes

Going to Lourdes for 4 days in May. Can anyone recommend any decent day trips that we could take from Lourdes - would have to be by bus or train as no one drives.

Cheers

Hi Andrew

I went to Lourdes last year hitchhiked from Maubourguet, then caught the bus from the train station to Argeles-Gazost, a beautiful little town on the edge of the pyrenees, could have gone further into the mountains but did not have the time, had to be back to catch the train to Pau, spent a couple of days there, a really nice chateau, very good guided tour. there is a lovely park at the eastern end and a promenade between the chateau and the park with very good veiw of the Pyrenees, you can read the names of the different mountains on the on the balustrade, you have to line the groove on the balustrade up with the highest chimney.

Had a good time there, very good food and some nice shops.

Will be returning there in September but will head for the high pyrenees, hope you have a good time, all the best James.

A day trip to Gavarnie is to be recommended. A very picturesque village with the Pyrennees towering overhead. Lots of quaint shops and the scenery on the way to and from is wonderful. Coach trips from Lourdes to Gavarnie are available daily.
