Paris in August

I just checked out a restaurant%26#39;s website, and it stated they were closed for the month of August. I know traditionally August is holiday time for the europeans, but will many restaurants be closed?

Lots of small neighbourhood and family run bistrots will be closed, at least for some time in August.

Other than that, nothing to worry about. Too many tourists in town, so lots of brasseries, etc. will be open.

|||

I have to agree with the previous poster: quite a few places are closed in August, especially in the last 2 weeks (August 15 to 31).

|||

Oh no, I am there from the 17th to the 20th

Yes its true some--perhaps even a lot--of smaller, local restaurants in Paris MAY be closed during for part or all of August. BUT...out of the THOUSANDS of restaurants in Paris, you will scarcely notice. Unless you have very specific restaurant preferences/priorities---at the very worst, this will NOT be anything more than an occasional, very minor inconvenience. The notion that Paris is CLOSED FOR AUGUST is a very old and tired MYTH.

Have no fear! Even though some smaller family-run places will be closed. you will still not have a problem finding good places to eat, as CocoChanel has told you.

Especaially in the popular tourist areas many restaurants remain open through August, as do most of the more popular cafes and brasseries.

|||

Is it then true that Paris will be quieter in August due to the locals being away on holiday?

|||

Not so as you%26#39;d notice. It%26#39;s not like the entire population of Paris leaves for the seaside. And those who do leave are balanced by the heavy influx of tourists, not just from outside France but from the provinces too.
