ATS shuttle service from airport to central Nice

It looks like this is a good option and presumably cheaper than a taxi but it looks like the price is the same for a private shuttle as a shared shuttle--is there something I am missing here but why would anyone choose a shared shuttle ???

I%26#39;ve used theuir services quite often and only once have I seen someone else on a shared shuttle. I usually choose shared for the trip to the hotel and private from hotel to airport.

USUALLY it%26#39;s much cheaper when you click the shared option, about 7 euros to go to Nice although I haven%26#39;t used ATS for a while now. If you are trying to book at the last minute though, I seem to remember that the prices are the same, shared or private, also for some destinations, there is no shared option so the price is the same too for shared or private. Have a check that you have entered your details correctly and if you are booking well in advance. Their site probably needs tweaking to make these differences clearer, it might be worth phoning them or emailing them to check. I used them a lot in the past but recently, we have been jumping on the express bus with hand luggage or just taking a taxi for about 25-30 euros at least on arrival, then using the express bus to return to the airport. I have heard lately that the ATS prices have increased quite a bit so if there are more than a couple of you going, it%26#39;s cheaper to get a taxi anyway. I used to really recommend ATS a lot, but now...not so sure. best wishes.

thanks for advice given---do you happen to know if price given is per seat as when I put in 2 people or 1 person the price is the same whether for shared or private transfer ??

The airport is just a few odd miles off the city centre. With a rucksack or a rollable luggage and if it is not too hot a day, you may even consider walking there. The bulk of the hotels are in the equally quite compact city centre. Once you are off the shuttle bus, I would assume that the average distance to most hotels is down to less than half a mile. This stated, admittedly, it%26#39;s convenient and timesaving to be taken directly to the entry of your hotel. Personally, if I were for some reasons unwilling to take the bus, I would take a taxi.

Price is for transfer and is given for the whole party. It is now around 24 euros from airport to Gambetta Blvd (shared or private), that is what I paid in March of this year. It was half of this September 2005...

All is now clear. 24 euros is the price I was getting which is clearly a lot more than it was not so long ago but less than a taxi.Is it expected that I give a tip on top of the fare ??

thanks to everyone for the help.

We usually give a tip, it feels uncomfortable not to, the drivers seem to be mostly young chaps and they seem quite busy but are often friendly and cheerful and help with the lugagage. SOMETIMES, there is a bit of anxiety if they are not there, waiting at the arrivals, this has happened to us, they turn up eventually, also, they have to park away, so they leave at the kerb for a few minutes, whereas the taxis are just there ready and waiting. With ATS, it is definitely a good idea to have your mobile with you and their numbers keyed in, if your flight is delayed or the luggage delayed, there is only a certain time they will wait. All this needs to be taken into account. Also, because I worry about these things, lol, I always end up phoning them to confirm that they will turn up to collect us at the end of the holiday, it is not the same driver necessarily as the one who collects you so he or she can not confirm the pick-up, whereas the Nice taxi service have always been very reliable, they are there within minutes of a call or you can walk to one of the taxi stands or get your hotel to organise a taxi. There is only one number for the taxi service in Nice so you don%26#39;t have to worry about which taxi firm to use. The other thing that has put us off using ATS recently is the fact they they appear to have sub-let some of the work to local drivers so when I have phoned ATS to confirm, one useful thing is the fact they are english speaking, they have given me ANOTHER number to call and a couple of times it has been to a non-english speaking French chap, and it has been more difficult to confirm 100% the pick-up details, although this is more a sad relection on my poor French, although I do try very hard. When ATS prices were very good value, it was worth the extra bit of hassle and worry, but now, the prices are too commparable with the ready-to-go taxi service (there are 3 of us, might be better value for 2) so we do tend to use the express bus or the taxis. Hope this helps, I%26#39;m not trying to be negative about ATS, we HAVE had some very good prices and service off them in the past. best wishes.
