Opinions on Familia-Hotel?

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are visiting paris 30 april through 10 May and are looking for affordable, but pleasant lodging in the Latin Quarter. We thought the Familia-Hotel at 11 rue des Ecoles.

I was hoping that maybe someone here had stayed there and could give a review...or a suggestion for something better in the same price range nearby.

Thanks,

Peter Cook

It%26#39;s been a while since we%26#39;ve stayed at the Familia (we%26#39;re usually high summer visitors and the Familia doesn%26#39;t have A/C--but for your dates, this won%26#39;t be a concern) but on the occasion that we did stay for a 10 day visit, we loved the place (hated the heat wave) and have since recommended it to several frends and acquaintances who have stayed there over the years and liked it as well--several are repeat guests (voting with their wallets). The FAMILIA is a basic Parisian 2-star (what you see on the web sites is pretty much what you get) in a very convenient location and great neighborhood. The family who own both the Familia and Minerve next door and all the staff that we%26#39;ve ever encountered there have all been friendly and helpful.

If there have been complaints about the Familia that we%26#39;ve heard from friends, they were relatively minor ones about %26#39;thin walls%26#39; (one couple we know had a very %26#39;vocal%26#39; couple in the room next door for a couple of nights who evidently did late-nite calisthenics that evidently gave them a great deal of pleasure) and on week-ends in summer, the neighborhood is busy and active at night and street noise is occasionally a problem for lower front-facing rooms with open windows. Upper floor, front facing rooms have either %26#39;stand-in%26#39; or %26#39;walk-out%26#39; balconies with wonderful views out over the rooftops of Paris, all the way to Sacre Coeur and a perfect spot to sit an drink coffee in the morning.

Peter...

I am staying at the Familia%26#39;s sister hotel, Hotel Minerve (next door, same owners) during the same time period. I was told that the Miverve is a bit nicer than the Familia for just about the same price. We were able to book a room with a balconey. I can%26#39;t wait!!!
