Hotel de Fleurie vs. Hotel Minerve: which should we choose?

We are a family of 4 going to Paris near the end of July. We have narrowed our choices down to the Hotel de Fleurie which can give us a family suite (2 connecting rooms 1 bath) for 335€/night or the Minerve which can give us 2 rooms next door to each other for 238€/night. Is it really worth it to spend the extra 100€ to stay at the Fleurie? Both hotels are air conditioned and have 3 stars. Of course, if we stay at the Minerve, my teenage daughters will have their own bathroom which might be a plus, although their room wouldn%26#39;t connect with ours. (They did tell me it would be less than 3 metres away, so I%26#39;m guessing they would be next door to each other or across the hall.) On the website the Fleurie looks nicer, but what you see on the web doesn%26#39;t always match what you see when you get there. What do you think?

Minerve is great. I am just back from there. I have posted a review, but am waiting for it to go up.

The Minerve is very clean, central, friendly and I think, very good value. I would certainly recommend it and I think with two teenage daughter you would be better having two rooms and bathrooms!

I do not know the Fleurie or even where it is, so I cannot help out there

I am not familiar with the Minerve (except its location), but the Fleurie is a beautiful 3-star hotel. What makes the latter a lot more expensive is its location as Saint Germain is a much more upscale location, although rue des Ecoles is quite nice too.

I am familiar with the Fleurie, and it is a nice hotel in a good location.

However, the location of the Minerve is good too - very close to the islands, rue Mouffetard and so on. The Marais is just a short walk across the river.

With the previous poster%26#39;s recommendation I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate. After all 100€ will buy you all a nice dinner - to say nothing of the fun your daughters will have spending it at any of a hundred or three places in Paris!

And their own bathroom? What%26#39;s not to like?

I%26#39;m familiar with both hotels and would rate them about equually (decor and furnishings being largely matters of personal tastes). In so far as relative location is concerned, (our own personal preferences are for the neighborhoods of the upper-6eme...but this too is a matter of personal preferences and tastes) both hotels will be conveniently situated. BOTH are fine hotels.

We stayed at the FAMILIA HOTEL (next door to the Minerve--now owned and managed by the same family) and liked both the hotel, location and neighborhood a LOT. But we decided to shift our %26#39;base%26#39; a bit to the west, across Blvd. Saint Michel, into the upper-6eme-Saint Germain des Prés because we found that (at least for our personal preferences, priorities and tastes) for us it was just a bit more conveniently situated; had slightly more convenient public transportation connections and a better and more interesting selection of neighborhood cafés, bistros, restaurants and shops. And for this, average hotel prices tend to be a bit higher in the 6eme than they are in the 5eme.

What isn%26#39;t a matter of personal preference, priority or taste between the two is 100 €uro per night of YOUR hard earned vacation budget. 100 €uro goes a long way toward the dinner check or...a day-trip or...purchasing something special for yourselves or.... perhaps spending an extra day %26amp; night in Paris....etc. In any event, you probably can%26#39;t go far wrong with either hotel.

The Fleurie is a 3* hotel which can%26#39;t compare with the 2* Minerve. You can tell that there is a huge difference in the two hotels%26#39; appearances via their websites. Location is not an issue as the Fleurie is located in St. Germain whereas the Minerve is located in the Latin Quarter. Both areas are very central, safe, charming, and have endless dining opportunities.

So it comes down to a personal choice of whether you wish to stay in a higher category hotel or not.

Also I notice that you are visiting Paris in July. Paris temperatures can reach the 90F%26#39;s sometimes; it can also become humid. If you and your family are sensitive to heat and humidity please realize that the Minerve offers no a/c. The Fleurie, being a 3* hotel, does have a/c in the rooms. Choosing a hotel without a/c means that you will need to open the windows most likely. So if noise and fumes are bothersome reserve a room in the rear of the hotel for quietness and lack of fumes.

Best I can tell, BOTH hotels are 3-star hotels.

Seems to me there are three very clear stars at the top of the splash page...

|||

And the Minerve%26#39;s web site says that the hotel is air-conditioned throughout. Are you looking at a different Minerve?

|||

My Parisian hotels days are over since I much prefer renting apartment but Le Miverne was always my choice. A very good three stars with well trained polite personnel, a/c, and beautiful terrace or balcony for some of the rooms. You definetely get the best bang for your money. The breakfast is really overprice, you can easily eat cheaper close by.

IrishRovr, your point has been made clearly. Yes, I made a mistake!
