Trips within 2 hours drive from Paris

We will be in Paris in mid May. We will stay in Paris for 3 days, and then move to the suburbs and rent a car for 5 days. Will appreciate suggestions for nice short trips (2-2.5 hrs drive), countryside, small villages, beaches, vineyards, etc.

You could drive down to the Loire Valley: lots of small villages and beautiful castles to see. I particularly recommend Chenonceau. http://www.tourism-touraine.com/

Where %26quot;in the suburbs%26quot; will you be staying? A short trip from one side of Paris could be a lot longer if you have to go through or round Paris in both directions...

Etretat on the Normany coast is a beautiful place to visit, www.etretat.net. It%26#39;s around 220 km from Paris.

We will be in North of Paris

Hello Raja,

The D-Day beaches of Normandy are very interesting.......maybe 3 hours west of Paris with Rouen along the way if you might be interested in seeing it...historical, interesting...Joan of Arc burned at the stake there. There is a direct super highway from the northwest side of Paris.

Mount.St. Michel is very interesting too...on the coast about 4 hours southwest of Paris...about 2 hours south of the D-Day and Normandy beaches. Some interesting towns around it too...St.Malo, Dinard.

Oleans, Lyon are interesting too...due south and through the chateau, Loire area. Be best to look up some information on these sites, if you could.

If you do a search on this site, there have been many other good suggestions for trips away from Paris. Just try %26quot;day trips%26quot;....that should do it.

May is a good time to go.......Summer crowds are not out in force yet and the weather might be really good. Have fun.

We will also be in Paris in mid May. After staying 8 nights in Paris, we plan on staying 2 nights in the Champagne region (Epernay), visiting Reims (cathedral, champagne cellars dug as chalk mines by the Gallo-Romans) and driving the Wine Route to see the countryside. There are also WWI sites to see.

Here%26#39;s a short list, all north of Paris, all less than 2.5 hours by car:

Rheims, Épernay, champagne country, Verdun, Laon, Compiègne, Senlis, Chantilly, Arras, Amiens, Rouen, les Andelys, Giverny, Honfleur, Caen, Bayeux, the D-day beaches, Mont-St-Michel, Dinard, the Emerald Coast, Rennes.

And that%26#39;s only the major places and I bet I left a few of those out...

Thanks everybody for your help

We just returned from a trip to Paris, and on our way to Strasbourg we decided to take a side trip to Epernay to visit the champagne houses. Moet %26amp; Chandon was closed (even though their website said it would be open), and so we went to Mercier instead. The tour was %26quot;O.K.%26quot;. It was in French (they only gave tours in English at certain times, and we couldn%26#39;t wait) and mostly consisted of riding around on a little tram in the cellars looking at racks of aging bottles. I speak a little French and picked up dates (i.e. Something interesting happened in 1822!) but that was about it. We each got one small glass of champagne at the end. The price was 6.5 euros each. We%26#39;d heard that Moet%26amp;Chandon was better, but...
