will a rolling suitcase on the metro be unwieldy or inconvenience everyone else? I have read all the different posts about taxi, shuttle, etc - i am just not sure.

If the rolling suitcase is of the size suitable for carry-on, it will be okay, though a bit of a pain in the butt to carry up out of the metro if you have to climb stairs, such as at Place St. Michel.
If the rolling suitcase is huge and can only be checked luggage, I think you need a taxi or shuttle, skip the metro.
