Nice to Paris- where to stop?

We will be traveling up from Nice to Paris in the end of June. We were looking for a cool, fun city about half way between the two, thats easily accessible by train. Any ideas?

Lyon or Beaune should work. I don%26#39;t know about %26quot;cool, fun,%26quot; but both are interesting to visit.

Of the two places Underhill suggests, Lyon is much the easier of the two to get to by TGV. But you need to be aware that is is a BIG city, so you will need to pre=plan your activities if you are going to get the most out of a short visit.

From your post, I don%26#39;t think Beaune is what you are looking for. Lyon is probably your best bet.

Definitely Lyon. Accessible by TGV. But I would suggest you check how long is the TGV to Lyon VS how long is the TGV for Avignon. They may take about the same time, but in Avignon you would be closer to Nice.

I left from nice with a friend once and to break up the trip we went to Lyon on our way to paris. I highly agree with the other posts. Lyon is an interesting and exciting city. We were only there for one day and night but we spent the whole time walking around and exploring different parts of the city. Ended up at the square in front of the opera house people watching. One day is surely not enough time to explore everything. But, it will give you a taste of the city and perhaps bring you back again for a longer stay. One more thing the food is impeccable.
