English speaking visitors in Paris

I am interested in connecting with the English speaking community in Paris - expats and others who gather for drinks, soirees, and meet-and-greets. I will be in Paris for the month of May and staying in St Germain area. My French is enough for me to make my way as a visitor and have a simple conversation. Anyone have any experience in which they met interesting people?

Do a search on expats (search tool above). In the last few days, there was a really good posting that had a website for expats in France with many in Paris: the link is

expat-blog.com/en/…france

Just copy and paste the link into your browser. Hope this helps!

You can also do a posting that says, %26quot;For Truffaut%26quot;. He is from here and has an apartment in Paris.

Lucky you going to Paris for a month! We will be there for a few days in May also; May 22 - 25. We typically put together a group from Tripadvisor for dinner. If you%26#39;d like to join us, our dinner is going to be on Monday, May 22nd. Let me know if you%26#39;d like to join us.

Have a wonderful time in Paris!

You can go to one of Jim Haynes Sunday dinners in the 14th. Google him. Most pubs will also supply a fair amount of English speaking patrons.

This is one I discovered last year

Take yourself to the local war memorial (usually near the Mairie) on May 8th. I dont know where the local liberation celebrations/commemoration services are for St Germain - maybe an expert can shed light on this.

You want a service that is local because you will be recognised as a visitor, and can be virtually guarenteed someone will talk to you. Last year Mrs Wizz (who has a talent for these things) had a very interesting conversation with a man who had been in the labour camps in the last big one. I evesdropped, before we were invited for a Pastis.

There ya go - conversation, a glow of worthiness, AND alcohol. If life gets better than that I dont know it!

Vickis%26#39; suggestion of the TA GTG sounds like fun. You might find something of interest on one of these sites

Rats! vickisfloyd - I%26#39;ll miss your dinner by a week. We don%26#39;t arrive until the 29th. It would have been fun to dine with another Floridian while there. Anyone going the following week?

jolielaw, you could also organize your own get-together through TA. Waytogogirl and I organized one at the end of March, when we there, at a restaurant and jazz club. It was a great mix of American tourists, Parisians, and an American ex-pat. It was fun, though somewhat confusing at times, as I didn%26#39;t know exactly which language to speak. It depended on who I was talking to. The Parisians were speaking English, the Americans were speaking French, and then everyone was switching back to their own language.

Also, you might meet English-speaking people through the Village Voice, an English bookstore near Place St-Michel, or Shakespeare %26amp; Co, a famous bookstore where Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Anais Nin and others used to go. It%26#39;s near Notre-Dame on the left bank.

The %26quot;Club Metropole%26quot; is an old standby.

Its a tongue in cheek %26quot;club%26quot; that meets every thursday afternoon from 3-5 PM at the Cafe-Tabac La Corona located at 30 Quai du Louvre.

The erstwhile president is an ex-pat and all ex-pats and visitors to the city are invited to attend.

Aw - that%26#39;s too bad Keylime! We would have loved to have you! Put together your own little party. Just do a post here (but not too far in advance) and see if anyone takes you up on it.

Hi jolielaw,

Just to weigh in, there%26#39;s Talktime %26amp; Teatime with Michel on Saturdays at 5:30pm. He lives just near Shakespeare %26amp; Co., and 10 Eur will get you tea, snacks and half-time French, half-time any other language. Michel himself is fluent in English (and picked up a NY accent, strangely enough). I don%26#39;t have his number on me at the moment, but he always takes out an ad in the FUSAC freebie (you can pick one up outside of Shakespeare %26amp; Co.). Never been, but he tells me it%26#39;s similar to dinner at Jim%26#39;s, which is always fun.

I like the look of the Club Metropole that Rillifane suggested, even if you end up being the only other person that %26quot;Ed%26quot; at the meeting, as apparently happened last week according to the newsletter.
