I%26#39;m just going to be going to Paris for the weekend in the next couple of months.
Given the choice between Bastille (Blvd Richard Lenoir; Metro Breguet Sabin) and Marais (just north of Rue Rivoli; Metro Hotel de Ville), which would you say is best in terms not only of proximity to sights, but general atmosphere, etc.
Also I%26#39;ve read the posts about Hotel Andrea Rivoli and it seems really nice but neither review mentioned anything about noise levels. Can anyone comment else comment or is the fact that noise wasn%26#39;t mentioned a good sign in itself?!

What is too far? :)
If you equate the centre of Paris to the houses of Parliament, then the Marais is like staing near the Tower of London. Except maybe closer. It depends what you call the centre of Paris

You could hardly be more central whichever you choose. Hotel de Ville (City Hall) is the exact center of the city. It%26#39;s lively and exciting and closer to the soul of the Marais. Bastille is also lively but in a different way, more about %26quot;partying%26quot; on Friday/Saturday/holiday nights. I prefer the more refined Marais (he said sanctimoniously). Seriously, the sidewalk culture is alive and well in the Marais. There%26#39;s less intoxication and more neighborhood culture.

I should perhaps have said that I%26#39;m going with my mother. I can see that you live locally - I%26#39;ll avoid the temptation to ask you to stake out the area with full noise monitoring equipment, but could you tell me whether you think the area immediately surrounding the hotel andrea rivoli will be very noisy? From what you say it sounds quite sedate but would appreciate you view as a local. Thanks very much!

Of the two choices, the Hotel Andrea Rivoli is the safest bet if noise is an issue. The hotel is literally 70 meters from our apartment so we know the neighborhood well. It%26#39;s an ancient and historic street and it%26#39;s quiet relative to the Bastille in general. We have no personal experience with the hotel but we do know the neighborhood and I can only say that the Bastille and rue St. Bon are two completely different neighborhoods after hours.

hello, My name is Djamila and I am living no far away from Rue de rivoli. You should as the reception for a room not in the street cause the street in the morning and sometimes the evening is quiet noisy.
Otherwise the situation IS VERY GREAT. for your information there is no really Center in Paris. Each Arrondissements have is Centre; But at this place you are almost at the Center of Paris. Great situation I tell you. Just check for the room without noise.
enjoy !
Djamila

Houses of Parliament to Tower of London? I don%26#39;t think so...
More like Houses of Parliament to Trafalgarr Square. Did you maybe mean London Bridge, Wiz?
Anway, yes you%26#39;ll be just a few minutes walk from Notre Dame cathedral. Only way to be more central would be to stay at l%26#39;Hospitel on Ile de la Cité,
