Bike Trip Ending in Aix-En-Provence and then......

After biking thru Avignon, Arles, Les Baux Pnt Du Gourd etc....we will end up at The

Acquabella Hotel for two days (Sept 21) From

there we plan to add a week on our own, and

preferbly would not rent a car.We were thinking

the train to Nice or Cannes and use either as a base for day trips. Eventually we fly home

from Marseille...Looking for ideas!!!

Thanks!

You won%26#39;t find a better base than Nice, the most lively place on the coast and a bus and train route centre. Cannes is a lot less lively and more dominated by tourists. Nice is certainly worth a few days of ambling around.

You will find French drivers very considerate if you are on a road bike and look as if you might be or have been a competitive cyclist, spookily so for someone who lives most of the time in SE England. Cyclists commonly do things in and around Nice that would be certain death in London.

Stan

Why the Aquabella ? Cant you find anything else ?

Davixx...Acquabella is not our choice..it is planned by the Vermont Bike Tours...However,

when we get to Nice, we will be on our own for the final week (no bikes)..Do

you have any suggestions for hotels in Nice...Not on a strict budget, but we spend

very little time in the room,so 3 stars

are adequate!!

Thanks!

I%26#39;m afraid not, I don%26#39;t know Nice at all.

Stan -

I see LondonBob replied to your original post. If he is still monitoring this thread I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;ll have some hotel ideas for you. If not, I think you%26#39;d be better posting your request in the Nice forum - or just searching their archives for ideas.

I don%26#39;t stay in hotels when I%26#39;m in the south of France, so am not much help. However, you might like to consider Villefranche-sur-Mer as a base - just minutes from Nice by bus, and a pleasant place by the sea, with good restaurants and a nice relaxed atmosphere. I think I%26#39;ve heard the Welcome Hotel well spoken of.

Also in Villefranche is the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a beautiful villa with magnificent gardens. Nowhere else will you get such a good idea what the Riviera was like in its Golden Age.

Dear Stan,

I dont have an answer to your questions but another question. We are debating where to stay in aix en provence in end aug. How is the aquabella and why did you choose it

Merci

Marsha

Not our choice...booked by the bike tour group...We have been on Vermont Bike Tours before and

the hotels are usually OK...not great, but on

bike trips the only things you really do at the hotels are

sleep and breakfast..
