Hotels in St. Germain de Pres?

Hello! My husband and I are taking my mother and grandmother to Paris and we are looking for a hotel and my friend recommended the St. Germain de Pres area.

Could anyone recommend specific hotels in the area (or where to find them, I had no luck with Expedia or other sites). We are looking for a hotel with a lot of character and moderately priced (say below $175/night).

I would greatly appreciate any input!! Thanks!

Here%26#39;s the TA-link for reviews of Saint-Germain hotels at rates between 100-200 USD:

Hi mma5587 and welcome!

If you will click on the %26quot;Paris Hotels%26quot; link at the top left of this page, you will find a database of hotels with reviews from people who have stayed in them.

You can cull this database by both area and price. Have a look there, and when you have seen a few that look interesting, come back and ask for any more specific information you might want. (By the way I assume your $175 per night figure is per room, right?)

I think it%26#39;s great that you are taking your mother and grandmother to Paris, and I agree that the St. Germain des Près area is probbaly just right for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the fast responses! I was wondering - is this area close to main attractions? It is our first time there so we will want to hit up as much as possible; however, my grandmother%26#39;s legs aren%26#39;t able to go as long as they used to.

Thanks again!!!

Look up these 2 forum-threads about taking senior citiziens with not-so-strong-legs to Paris:

Yes, Saint-Germain is as close to main sights as you could possibly wish for.

Hi, if you%26#39;re not going in summertime, Hotel de Seine is in a nice street, the rue de Seine. It%26#39;s in the heart of St. Germain which really is one of the nicest districts (6th). There are many nice cafes, restaurants, and shops in this neighborhood. I am not sure about your budget if it%26#39;s for one room. If it is for one room then this hotel has rates under 175 euro.

mma5587-We just returned from Paris. Stayed in St. Germain de Pres area at the K %26amp; K Hotel Cayre on 4 Rue du Raspail (Blvd. St. Germain is on the next corner). I think it is approximately $25-30 more per night than your range, but in most cases, the breakfast buffet is included and quite delicious.

The hotel is lovely, very clean, and modern (so it may not fit your character requirement) with a helpful staff. It is part of a German-owned boutique hotel chain.

Location is great-metro station across the street, pharmacies, banks, post office and plenty of restaurants and shopping along Raspail and neighboring streets.

I don%26#39;t know how active your mother and grandmother are, but my son and I walked to all of the major sites quite easily.

Have fun.

The 6th (St. Germain des Pres) is the perfect area for you. There are lots of cafes and restaurants all very close together (go to La Pallette on rue de Seine close to the river, and check out the macaroons, fruit tarts and other dlights at Gérard Mulot%26#39;s wondeful patisserie, also on rue de Seine but south of the blvd. St-Germain at the corner of rue Lobineau.) You shouldn%26#39;t have to walk far after dinner to get back to your hotel.

Try to find a hotel that you like close to the river. The Louvre is just across the river from the 6th, so that will save walking if yo plan to go there.

As you get farther away from the river the ground slopes upwards towards the Jardin du Luxembourg. It%26#39;s not steep, and walking downhill in the morning would probably be fine. It%26#39;s walking back uphill after a full day in the afternoon!

Paris is a great city for just sitting - on a bench in a garden, on the terrace of a cafe, on the Pont des Arts, on a cruise along the river - so when your grandmother gets tired it will be a great excuse to do any of those. Just being in Paris is such a joy. You really don%26#39;t have to get to all the %26quot;must see%26quot; places - just the ones that YOU really care about...

Enjoy!

Thanks for all of the info - y%26#39;all have been great! I think I may have found something that suits us - the Hotel Royal Saint Michel. The location seems perfect and the hotel seems very nice. It looks great from the pictures - do y%26#39;all think it is a good choice?

Thanks again!

Hi

I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve seen the reviews - but they are very good, so your choice sounds really super:
