best base city for extended stay?

First, thanks to all who take time to respond to the forums on TA! Four seasoned travelers planning a trip for late September into October. Planning to stay between 8-11 days. Doing day trips out to Provence region, Monaco and other coastal cities using rail, car and bus as transportation.

Leaning toward Nice as our base but wonder if Marsaille might be better or another another location around the Cote d%26#39;Azur?

Thanks so much,

Roxy

Definitely Nice as it is very central for the Riviera. It is even possible to do both Eze Village and Monaco in the same day and get back to Nice for supper time.

Correct call - Nice - 5th largest city in all France, Nice airport 2nd largest volume passenger traffic in all France.

Some hints and tips Nice %26quot;off the beaten path%26quot; here:

Yes, Nice for the coast. And you won%26#39;t need a car to explore the coastal towns.

If you really wanto visit Provence, I%26#39;d be inclined to move your base of operations for a couple of days - perhaps to the Avignon area, perhaps a little farther north if it is more the villages of the Lubéron you want to visit.

If you are really going to visit Provence from Nice, you%26#39;ll be doing a lot of unnecessary driving.

I definitely think you should split your time between two centers.
