Cost of an average meal in paris

my husband and i are %26quot;anything goes%26quot; when it comes to food.I%26#39;m curious...what%26#39;s the cheapest meal you can find in Paris?

I suppose it all depends how you define %26quot;meal.%26quot;

The cheapest would probably be something like falafel from L%26#39;As du Falafel on the rue des Rosiers in the 4th. 4 €uro - and delicious.

A good but simple %26quot;plat principal%26quot; (main course) with a glass of modest wine in a neighborhood cafe might set you back 10€.

There are plenty of places where you can get a two or three course prix fixe meal, especially at lunch, for 12€-15€, sometimes with a glass or small pitcher of house wine included. There probably won%26#39;t be much choice, but if you pick the right place you can eat very well for this kind of money.

Hi

Eating out in Paris (and big cities in Europe in general) is not a cheap affair. I have some friends in Malaysia and they are of course pretty shocked when they come to Europe and discover that it is very hard to find a good meal at a cheap price. My wife and I went to Paris during easter week and how much it cost depends on where you go and what you eat. We tried to find decent restaurants that served French food. We went to a place called %26quot;La Rotisserie Du Beaujolais%26quot; and I think the bill there was 100€ for the two of us...we both had starters, main meal and we shared a bottle of wine and a dessert.

I have been to Singapore a couple of times and you have a great selection of food there. I love the hawker stores where you can find all sorts of food :-)

It is difficult today in Paris to find a good sandwich to take out (in Paris central) for less than 5 Euros.

Some cafes will have a menu for about 10-15 Euros. Not near main attractions.

A big salad could be a touch under 10.00.

Single dishes are occasionally also under 10.00.

For an evening meal you need at least 25-30 for good food. Ethnic restaurants are less and in areas like Saint Michel, Saint Severin, rue de la harpe etc. they are plentiful. Prices are a little cheaper in the outer arrondissements. Note that in some of the ethnic restaurants a coke can cost more than a glass of wine.

I was in Paris last week and the best place to have a cheap meal is McDonald%26#39;s. Even at McDonald%26#39;s price of a BigMac menu is almost one and a half times more than at ordinary McDonald%26#39;s somewhere else in Europe. paris is not a reasonable city at all regarding food. The second opportunity might be university%26#39;s cafetaria. A friend of mine studies at Sorbone and he led us to university%26#39;s international campus which is located in the very south of Paris. It takes no more than 15 minutes by metro. A menu with salad, main course, dessert and a drink costs like â¬5.

Aehm, the McDonalds thing is actually not cheaper. Of course if you take just a menu you get away with 5 Euros but somehow I never manage to eat for less than 15 Euros (yes I%26#39;m a pig) and then it%26#39;s the same than having a %26quot;plat du jour%26quot; and a beer in a normal restaurant.

There are a lot of supermarkets in Paris which will help you save a lot on refreshments (especially evian water) and snacks.

For breakfast, there are a lot of wonderful pastry shops you can go to for a baguette, 2 croissants, jam and juice for 2 for no more than 8 euros.

For lunch, local restaurants will be around 10-15 euros for 3 courses. If the weather is good, you can go to a deli and for about 12 euros have yourself a picnic lunch (for two). Some of the department stores (Lafayette) have great cafeterias with reasonable prices.

As for dinner, I favored ethnic eateries that ranged from 19 euros/per person for Moroccon food to a mere 6 euros/per person for Gyros/drinks/fries.

Honestly, we found many more reasonable places to eat in Paris than I have found in all my years in SF..so with your attitude of %26#39;anything goes%26#39; you will have fun sampling Parisian and other cuisine for less.
