Paris in a day

Don%26#39;t cringe. This isn%26#39;t as bad as it sounds. I%26#39;m taking my Mom to london this month and we will be taking Eurostar to Paris for the day. She%26#39;s never been but I have a few times. I know what sights we want to see, etc., but am looking for recommendations on a great place for lunch. I%26#39;m particularly interested in something with a view, whether that be the Seine or people watching on the Champs Elysee. It has been years since I%26#39;ve been there so I%26#39;m fresh out of ideas.

We are: not foodies but love nice, interesting restaurants with memorable food. In NYC, we loved Balthazar and Cesca, for example. great scene, nice people, good food, good wine (for me).

This will be on a Sunday, if that matters.

thanks for any input!

Georges at the top of the Centre Pompidou is fun and interesting with a great view, and faster service than most places. I am sure people are sick of it, but I also like Laduree on the Champs Elysees for a ladies at lunch kind of meal.

By that, I mean, sick seeing the place recommended, not actually sick of the place!

hi, i will be in paris on saturday between planes from new york to singapore. i have a 12 hour layover. hubby and i have not been in paris for 10 years. we have to be back at the airport by 9pm. can you suggest a day for us strolling and then a place to have an early dinner at 6.30 or even just a late lunch. we land at CDC at 10am. what is the best way for us to get into the city. don%26#39;t want to go to a dress-up kind of place, but really have a good meal--not a tourist place.

thanks for the advice for a perfect parisian day with a romantic meal.

Market is Vong of New York%26#39;s french restaurant. It is just off the Champs Elysees and is great, but you may need to book.

Also Alcazar - can%26#39;t remember the adress.

La Fermette Marboeuf in Rue marboeuf just off the Champs Elysees.

The Blue Elephant is Thai food and excellent - in the Bastille area. Enjoy.

I%26#39;m not sure how Georges at the top of the Pompidou Centre gets such good reviews! If you go, be ready for potentially supercilious, disdainful and slow service. We stopped for coffee at the weekend - I%26#39;m not particularly price sensitive, but 38 euros for two coffees, two waters and a piece of cake is steep by anyone%26#39;s standards. The Costes music and funky decor don%26#39;t even make up for it.

If price isn%26#39;t an issue, and you don%26#39;t mind forgoing the view, then do try L%26#39;Atelier de Joel Robuchon. Great, innovative food, and the sommelier is fantastic.

For the view, go to Jules Verne or Altitude 95 at the Eifel Tower. For a view of Notre-Dame and the Seine, head to La Tour d%26#39;Argent. A number of restaurants will be closed on Sunday, in which case you could have a beautiful lunch at Les Ambassadeurs, in the Hôtel Crillon.
