Train to Cannes

I am traveling to Cannes around July 21 in the late morning. Would like to take a fast train as close to Cannes as possible, since my house rental starts on Sat. What train from CDG airport would I take and where would I take it to. Also any good hotels at the last train stop? Any info would be great.

Have a look at:

http://beyond.fr/travel/railtgv.htm

Admittedly, this is from Gare de Lyon, but they have 2 fast non-stop trains to Cannes.

(there are several others and they all stop in Cannes).

We took the train a couple of yrs ago ~ I regretted not bringing a picknick. However, normally we fly ~ it%26#39;s not that expensive.

There%26#39;s a direct TGV from CDG at 1124 arriving in Cannes at 1700.

If you want more info, look at www.voyages-sncf.com

Enter your departure station as AEROPORT CDG 2 TGV

There%26#39;s also an English version of the site at www.raileurope.co.uk

I take it you%26#39;ve considered flying to Nice rather than spending all day on the train...?

thanks for your reply, yes I thought about driving but I will be driving for two weeks all over and just thought a nice long train ride to see the country side. Will try that web site.

Did you know you can use ROISSY for the CDG TGV staton?

Also the English anguage version of the SNCF site is probably better than the UK RailEurope site from the point of view of ticket purchases, especialy from the US.

ei216 - You want to purchase your ticket as far in advance as possible from the SNCF site, up to 90 days for regular TGVs, longer for for iDTGVs - of which there aren%26#39;t any from CDG. That wil give you your best shot of getting a discount ticket. Above all do NOT buy your ticket from any third-party vendor in the US unless you like being over-charged.

But, as has been suggested, if you are already at CDG you could also look for airfares to Nice from where it is only a short trip to Cannes. EasyJet flies this route

www.easyjet.com

and you might get decent RT fares on Air France, depending on yur dates.

www.airfrance.fr

Before you even try to book on the SNCF site go to the France forums and do a search for MorganB%26#39;s excellent guide to using the SNCF online booking system which is not exactly user-friendly.

Once again thanks for thetips, really want to take a trrain, will pack a lunch for the ride, But what did you mean by use %26quot;ROISSY for the CDG TGV%26quot; I tried going on SNCF yesterday for a July 21 train and nothing came up. Put in Cannes as destination and still nothing. Was it too early? Also another question is there a nice hotel anyone could recommend in Cannes for one night but reasonable.

Hi el216 -

Yes you were just a couple of days too early. You can only book up to 90 days ahead .(I think that info is in the MorganB post I mentioned.) I didn%26#39;t notice your travel date or I would have said something.

Once you have checked out the info about using the SNCF site, start looking as soon as that 90 day window opens and you will have your best shot at getting a discount ticket. There may not be very many for late July, and they will go fast.

THe reference to %26quot;ROISSY%26quot; simply meant hat you could use that as your departure station instead of typing (and having to remember) all that %26quot;AEROPORT CDG TGV 2%26quot; stuff - or whatever it is. As far as SNCF is concerned, they are the same place.

Can%26#39;t help with the Cannes hotel. I don%26#39;t stay in hotels in that part of the world.

Good luck with the train tickets!
