Arriving in Paris the first time

We arrive in Paris next Saturday in the morning...we were supposed to meet our daughter, our translater, when we arrive but she will be held up due to work and won%26#39;t arrive until evening. We are staying in the Rue Cler Area. We will only be in Paris for three days and don%26#39;t want to waste time however the first day we really don%26#39;t want to do too much...kind of just take everything in. Any suggestions? If we take a river cruise, are they long...round trip...pick up near us? Should we make dinner reservatons when we walk the neighborhood? Where?

Thanks!

I would take a taxi from the airport to your hotel; walk around your neighborhood; walk under the Tour Eiffel and have a look; take a right and walk the left bank to les Invalides; cross the Seine there and take a left back to les Bateaux Mouches and take a boat ride, don%26#39;t have dinner on the boat; walk back to your hotel via avenue du President Wilson and through the Trocadero, across the river and back under le Tour; relax and go to dinner.

Picking a restaurant should be a nice problem to have; it is always good to have a booking on a Saturday, so you may want to book before you go or on Saturday after you arrive.

That sounds like a plan! Is it ok to walk around with a map in hand or should one not be seen looking at a map too much?

You will be extremely lucky to be in Paris even for two hours if you do NOT bump into someone bent over a city-map !!

Tourists with maps in their hands put the bread-and-butter on Parisian dinnertables - so come out of the closet and admit it: %26quot;I%26#39;m new in this town, so what%26#39;s up ?%26quot;

:--)
