National Car Rental at CDG

This is our first time renting a car in Europe. We will be picking-up a car from National Car Rental at CDG. Is the car rental counter close to the luggage pick-up? Do you have to take a shuttle bus to get to your car? Do they speak English at the rental counter and car pick-up site? Is it easy to leave the car rental area and get to the A-4 roadway? I haven%26#39;t driven a manuel transmission for awhile, would it be O.K. to drive around the area there to get used to it a bit, or should I just get on the road and practice as I go?

We will be driving from CDG to Rothenburg,Germany. Is it easy to take the tollway? Are there many tolls? Will I need to carry a lot of change? Or do you just pay a total amount when you leave the tollway?

Any information that I can get to answer the above questions or to help us on our way across France and Germany would be greatly appreciated.

For driving directions and information on tollways to Rothenburg, go to mappy.com and plus in your information.

Agents at car-rental places usually speak at least some English; some agencies are actually in a terminal. Your rental company should be able to give you the information for your particular situation, depending on where you fly into.

There%26#39;s really not much space to drive around and practice your shifting--the car lots are usually full and not all that large. Is there some way you could get in a little practice at home?

The car rental places at CDG are downstairs at terminal 2. Walk to the connection between 2A and 2B or 2C and 2D and down downstairs - there is a connecting plaza with all the car places down there.

The people at National speak English - some better than others, but you will communicate OK - its amazing how people find a way to communicate when one is buying and one wants to sell...........

Its easy to get out of the car rental place, and to find the A4 you need to follow the signs first to Paris, then to the A104 to Torcy.
