book type maps

a recent thread on %26quot;scammers%26quot; talked about the locals using a book type map. Where are these available?

Pocket size book-style maps/street-indexes of Paris are published by a number of companies. The most common is known as l%26#39;Indispensable and can be bought from many news-stands and small newsagent type shops as well as at FNAC and other stores.

I think you might find it at amazon.com but at a hefty mark-up.

The only problem is that it cuts Paris up into bits to fit on the page, so until you are somewhat familiar with the geography it is less easy to use than the Streetwise type of map.

You%26#39;ll probably find a lot more info if you type l%26#39;Indispensable into the search box.

PS: Good info on the ATM PIN number thing!

thanks, Irish! I leave mon. so I will have to look for it when I get there. I always like to be inconspicuous (sp?) but of course the fact that I am walking around with my jaw dropping at all the amazing things to see in Paris will prob. be a giveaway. oh, well

This is what you want, costs about 7€ at the news kiosks (4.5%26quot;x 7%26quot;)..

If you%26#39;re heavy into riding the buses, you might prefer this one:

It costs more like 11€ and is not really pocket-size (5%26quot;x 8.25%26quot;)

You can find a good selection of Paris maps at the English bookstore H. W. Smith, on the rue de Rivoli near the Hôtel Le Meurice.
