Another Shopping Question--Cameos and Estate Jewelery

All you helpful TA members please advise about best places in Paris to find cameos which I collect and estate jewelry. I think some of the posters actually deal in estate jewelry. If so, would love to visit your shops.

Thanks.

Hey all you shoppers, dealers, Paris Experts, please respond!

Only place I can think of is at the St Ouen flea market. You can try there.

|||

Thanks. Was planning in going to at least one flea market. Are there any jwelers who have what we call Estate jewelry or Older jewelry. I also like craft pieces.

If you go to parispuces.com you can get a map and directory of the market. You may find more specific info there. Traffaut is an expert here...if he sees this post- he may be able to chime in!

Good luck!

Merci Beaucoup! I will go to both the places mentioned in June. Hope to hear from Truffaut, too and will check his website. I am in maryland a few times every year. More often than I get to paris.

Holger,

Unfortunately, I%26#39;m in Maryland more than in Paris, too!

There are many dealers in antique jewelry at St-Ouen, and they are spread out among all the many different markets. You never know what any given dealer will have, so I can%26#39;t necessarily recommend a specific boutique. There are two dealers at Marché Malassis toward the back of the right-hand aisle as you face the market (Jean-Pierre %26amp; Jacqueline Lembeye near the back and another woman on the opposite side of the aisle toward the middle) that have a small, but very good quality selection of items. There are also a number of dealers at Vernaison, Paul Bert, Serpette, Dauphine and Biron.

There are a few jewelry dealers at Porte de Vanves, but it%26#39;s hit or miss if you%26#39;re looking for something specific.

There%26#39;s also Village Suisse on the Left Bank just off avenue de Suffren. These dealers tend to be very pricey and you never know for sure when they%26#39;ll be open (they never seem to be open during the hours they say they will be open), but they have some interesting things.

You should visit Les Antiquaires du Louvre, even though the prices are astronomical. Many of the dealers are jewelry specialists, and there are the most exquisite cameos available. We%26#39;re not talking the sorts of cameos that one finds in the US!

There%26#39;s a story on St-Honore (I think) called Dary Bijoux, which has a large selection of antique jewelry, but I%26#39;ve never found anything inspiring there.

And finally, take the time to visit the jewelry collections at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. I%26#39;m not sure which is better--the actually jewelry or the stunning manner in which it%26#39;s installed.

Thanks Truffaut, will certainly follow your excellent suggestions. Will go and look at the cameos which I collect. I have many Italian ones that I have collected over the years--some old, some newer but signed, not machine or laser cut.

In the meantime, went on the website from Kensington and found a pair of earrings I really like alot. Sent an inquiry about the backs. My ears are not pierced. Depending on the answer, I may order them.

Where is Kensington in terms of Columbia , Md. My son lives there and I do visit.
