Caleches at Versailles

We plan on visiting Versailles on a Sunday next month when we are in Paris so we can see the fountains. We want to take a carriage ride while we are there. Will it be difficult to get one since Sundays are popular because of the fountains? Should we reserve one? (It%26#39;s just the two of us.) Should we consider going another day and forget about the fountains? Thanks.

You can go by carriage from the palace to the Grand Trianon and back; I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll have any problem with crowds for them. We usually got in the first one that came along, and that was on a Sunday. May will not yet be high season, either.

You may find that some of the coaches used are not really carriages, although a number are.

Just got back from Paris.

You must go to Versailles on a Sunday when the fountains are on - with lovely music. It was great.

There was only a small queue for the caleche - I don%26#39;t think you can book.

It was around 45 euro for 15 mins to the main fountain %26amp; back - up to around 180 euros for about an hour to the Petit Trianon %26amp; back. But that is for up to 6 people, so if you are a group (or richer than us) it did look worth it.

I somehow got the impression that the fountains are *only* on on Sundays, but the website says they%26#39;re on Saturdays, too, if I understand correctly. Is that so? Are Saturdays less crowded than Sundays?

Thank you!

Kathy

Thank you worldclasstraveler99. I was questioning whether this was the right thing to do. Now we won%26#39;t miss it. Is it true that the fountains are only on for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon?

Yes saturdays too. I guess as many people than on sundays.

Fountains are on from 11 to 12 on the main view, and from 3h30 pm to 5pm for all the fountains.Take a map and do not miss the Salle de Bal (Rocailles), the Bains d%26#39;Apollon and the Encelade fountains.

Great info. -- Thank you!

Raphy- Do you mean that only a limited number of fountains are on from 11 to 12? Also, can we get the map there or should we print out the one on the Versailles website? Would you recommend taking the caleche while the fountains are on or is it better to walk around during that time? Thanks for all the info.

They give you a full map when you buy the ticket - it shows you which fountains are on %26amp; when.

I would walk to the fountains, because some of them are in grottos where the caleche cannot go - then take the caleche when the fountains shut down for lunch!

Yes only a limited number of fountains are on in the morning : the main perspective with the Laton and Apollon fountains, plus fifteen minutes at the Three fountains and fifteen minutes at the salle de Bal (rocailles).

From 3h30 to 5 pm all of them are on. Personnally i would just walk around as the caleches won%26#39;t go to all the fountains as they are limited to some pathes.

Thanks for all the info. Raphy- are you saying that some of the fountains are only on for 15 min in the morning and not the full hour? We were hoping to make an early day of it and really don%26#39;t want to still be there by late in the afternoon.
