Paris areas?

I%26#39;m reserving a hotel in Paris via Priceline.com, which allows you to choose hotel by area, not name. The area choices are as follows:

(1) St. Germain - Latin Quarter - Montparnasse

(2)Opera Quarter East - Les Halles

(3) La Defense - Neuilly

(4) Eiffel Tower - Grenelle - Montparnasse

(5) Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West

(6) Batignolles - Montmartre - Republique

(7) Bastille - Bercy

Can anyone recommend the best area to stay in? There%26#39;s 4 of us going, all in our early to mid 20%26#39;s, so we%26#39;re looking for a fun, busy part of town. We%26#39;re not very concerned with lots of amenities or anything fancy. Just a fairly safe and easily accessible area. Any help is much appreciated!!

Though I%26#39;ve never been, 2 of us are going to Paris in May and we are in our early 30%26#39;s looking for very much the same criteria you had mentioned. Everyone we spoke to strongly recommended St-Germain.

It%26#39;s a shame that those limited choices exclude so many districts of Paris, the Marais or Montmartre for example. %26lt;%26lt;St. Germain - Latin Quarter - Montparnasse%26gt;%26gt; is a HUGE swath of the city.

IMHO, Priceline may not be the best choice of agents if you are looking for a %26quot;quality%26quot; stay -vs- a %26quot;cheap%26quot; stay in Paris - within the dates you entered on their website. To me, the most interesting places in the city aren%26#39;t even on their list.

For what you%26#39;re looking for, I%26#39;d definitely suggest the Latin Quarter (area 1 on your list). It%26#39;s definitely a %26quot;fun, busy%26quot; part of town -- day and night. It%26#39;s also right in the center of where you%26#39;d like to be for sightseeing.

OK, this is ridiculous. Option #6 %26quot;Batignolles-Montmartre-Republique%26quot; could include arrondissements 3, 10, 11, 17, and 18 (and possibly 9, if you accept the extended view of Montmartre that many sites seem to take).

Priceline is not adequate at all when choosing a hotel in Paris. It might work find in America, but you are missing some of the most charming hotels.

I know Priceline isn%26#39;t the greatest, but for 4 people just out of college who don%26#39;t want to stay in a hostel, it offers the perfect price range. Any other suggestions as to reasonably priced hotels?

I%26#39;ve never used them, but I would in a flash if I needed to. At least you know what you are getting, and they have some very reasonably priced places. As for areas, in terms of arrondissements, I%26#39;d suggest (given your ages and what you say you are looking for) the 5th, 4th or 6th, in that order, with the 11th and 3rd next, but you need to know where exactly in the 3rd and 11th, so when (if) you fnd something interesting give us the EXACT address and ask if you%26#39;re not sure abut it.

And, as everyone else has said, forget Priceline - you could end up miles from where you think you are going to be - and many people have.
