Acension Day holiday and the weekend.

We hope to visit Monaco and Eze from Nice on Ascension Day. Will train, bus and shop schedules be altered? is this a long holiday weekend in france? Will weekend traffic be lighter on highways? Thanks, tampamom

According to my diary: Thursday 25 May 2006 -Ascension Day (Ascension catholique)

As a Catholic country France takes public holidays seriously. There will be a standard Sunday Service on public transport (say, two an hour instead of three), and some businesses and smaller enterprises will shut up shop. Worse, others will follow the french tradition of %26quot;making a bridge%26quot; ie go through from Thursday to the weekend.

The highways are not really an issue. You either prefer to drive, or you prefer to avoid the hassle and use the bus. Both run on holidays - except the Eze bus is a really poor service at the best of times. You need to work to the running schedules and not %26quot;turn up and go%26quot; unless you like an hour and a half waits.
